what is actually causing hdd activity ?

Unread postby seccentral » Thu Nov 01, 2012 1:52 pm

I have windows 7 64bit freshly installed (yesterday, well, actually today at about 2 AM )
it's service pack 1
and i see a lot of activity hdd-wise, there's something moving a lot of data around and i cant seem to understand what.
it's close to choking the system..
literally.
Now, i know you may think it's got to be some sort of virus cause thats the first thing to say, but this box is fresh and i'm a bit trained in security and pentesting.(boasting) tho u never know. av sais nothing though.

the question is not this or that. i couldnt care less if it were a virus i only want to identify the process causing that much disk i/o.
and i am asking here because in process hacker (show details for all processes) i dont see anything at all that big on disk i/o.
most things are just idling, same shows in i/o graph.
some people said it's superfetch, however i dont see it in process hacker or process explorer as a major disk i/o player.
in fact i can hardly notice any activity at all.

Please, how can i really for real for pete's sake find out what process is using that much data ?
if i only had a true linux ps or iotop alternative...
